CharlieMay is the brainchild of best friends Danielle and Tanner, both from Los Angeles. Having established a friendship based on their shared hatred of college food, they set about making music together. The duo describes themselves as ‘2 bffs. often lost in our feelings’, and nowhere is this more encapsulated than ‘Call’, a quietly powerful ballad that muses the twists and turns of a failing relationship. Whilst CharlieMay’s last release ‘Simple Song’ brought Danielle’s vocals to the forefront, ‘Call’ puts the spotlight on beatmaker Tanner, who cuts, chops and layers the vocals beautifully to form the soft refrain ‘When I go, call me’. Beneath this sits a heavy bassline which roots the otherwise shimmering and twinkling production. With an EP promised before the start of 2017, there’s hopefully more to come from CharlieMay before the year is out. - HM
